I was looking to breathe new life into my Powerbook G3 ...
The laptop is now 4 years old and has what would now be a modest configuration: 233MH processo, 96 MB RAM, and 2GB HD. While slow, I was not yet ready to retire it. So, Linux seemed the answer.
For the past couple of years I have been wanting to explore the Linux world. My purchase of an iMac with OSX just whetted my appetite. Then when I started to look at my aging (but still beloved) Wall Street Powerbook G3 against its younger, faster sibling, it just seemed like the time to make the try.
I tried a number of distributions: Debian, Mandrake,in particular. But there were problems with compatibility with the Powerbook or with documentation or both. So, I decided to try YDL. I bought the whole package (t-shirt and all). Your documentation took me through the installation and answered the couple of snags I had.
I have been up and running with a Gnu desktop, running Evolution, KWord, Nautilus, XMMS, and lots of other stuff. I don't think I could have so much software on my Powerbook with its current configuration (233MH processor; 96 MB RAM; 2GB HD) unless it was Linux.
This old machine has new life.
